Question Unable to determine enabled services. Cache is out of date or doesn't exist.

    Hi,

Encountered problem with zimbra open source edition.Suddenly the mail server can't received and send email.
No changes in configuration and settings.
After checking the mail status by zmcontrol status command.
    [zimbra@mail log]$ zmcontrol status
Unable to determine enabled services from ldap.
Unable to determine enabled services. Cache is out of date or doesn't exist.

After searching details and solutions in the forum and found that the problem is related to certificate issue.
Following the instructions from the ZCS Administration Console Certificates Tools to generarte certificates.
Before running the tools, I rename the original ssl folder in /opt/zimbra with ssl.bak and then run tools.

Please help me if the failed status is normal in running the certificate tools to regenerate or create new certificates.

Stop the zimbra server and run the following to generate new certificate

    #zmcontrol stop

Lightbulb Unable to determine enabled services

    Hi bhangki,

Even i Received this error many times and solved it easily, but before proceeding for new certificate creation check for few things-

Timezone for your zimbra whether system timezone and zimbra timezone it matches or not if not then log to zimbra and run "tzselect" and find your correct timezone and make timezone entry in ".bash_profile"

DNS - check whether your DNS configuration is correct.
    use -
    dig domain.com
    dig domain.com mx
    dig domain.com any

    host domain.com

make sure /etc/resolv.conf entry is correct, make sure your "/etc/hosts" Entry is correct.
Make sure disabled SeLinux, make sure you set correct permission to zimbra directory if not then run below command to fix permission issue -

    # chown -R zimbra:zimbra /opt/zimbra

    # /opt/zimbra/libexec/zmfixperms -verbose

If you are using self signed certificate then run below command
    # zmlocalconfig -s ssl_allow_untrusted_certs

    # If that returns false, please run:

    # zmlocalconfig -e ssl_allow_untrusted_certs=true

Now Try creating certificate, just follow the below Instructions:

    Code:
    # su - zimbra -c 'zmcontrol stop'

    # rm -rf /opt/zimbra/ssl/*

    # rm -rf /opt/zimbra/ssl/.rnd

    # /opt/zimbra/java/bin/keytool -delete -alias my_ca -keystore /opt/zimbra/java/jre/lib/security/cacerts -storepass changeit

    # /opt/zimbra/java/bin/keytool -delete -alias jetty -keystore /opt/zimbra/mailboxd/etc/keystore -storepass `su - zimbra -c 'zmlocalconfig -s -m nokey mailboxd_keystore_password'`

    #vi /opt/zimbra/bin/zmcertmgr

    # Find line
    # SUBJECT="/C=US/ST=N\/A/L=N\/A/O=Zimbra Collaboration Suite/OU=Zimbra Collaboration Suite/CN=${zimbra_server_hostname}"
    # and change to your company name

    # then find and change you want value days expire cert validation_days=365 to validation_days=3650
    # save /opt/zimbra/bin/zmcertmgr

    #/opt/zimbra/bin/zmcertmgr createca -new

    #/opt/zimbra/bin/zmcertmgr deployca -localonly

    #/opt/zimbra/bin/zmcertmgr createcrt self -new

May be you will receive some Failed but ignore them,

    #/opt/zimbra/bin/zmcertmgr deploycrt self

    Here also

    #su - zimbra -c 'zmcontrol start'

    It should start services successfully.

    #/opt/zimbra/bin/zmcertmgr deploycrt self

    #/opt/zimbra/bin/zmcertmgr deployca

    Everything would be perfect here.

    #su - zimbra -c 'zmupdateauthkeys'

    #/opt/zimbra/bin/zmcertmgr viewdeployedcrt
    #################################################

May be above will help you resolving this error...

    Cheers

    Question

    hi cloudmafia,

Thanks for this useful information you shared.
Another question is, what if the timezone from zimbra server and system timezone doesn't match?
For example if i adjust the zimbra timezone to match with the system timezone, does all the emails in the zimbra server will be affected, meaning all the emails that was already received and stored in the server will change the timestamp?

    One example :
zimbra timezone is US time ( UTC-06:00) to UTC +08:00 ?

    Best Regards,
    Hi,

I am not sure about all the problem because of timezones mismatch but i've experienced issue in certification creation and updating it, but it could cause many issues thats why its recommended to configure same timezone or correct it after installation, If you change you timezone ( UTC-06:00) to UTC +08:00 ) so it should not affect your stored mails but will affect new mails.

Default Unable to determine enabled services. Cache is out of date or doesn't exist.

    CloudMafia,
Thanks for the instructions. It wasn't exactly obvious to me that this was a certificate issue.

I followed the steps you provided and I'm running perfectly again. Thank you!

I also appreciate the note that I should expect to see "failed" messages in the output. I saw those messages and immediately freaked out and went back to your instructions to make sure I had typed them correctly just to find that you had already covered that. Thanks for the peace of mind.

Good to know that my post helped someone. even if anyone need help in creating Zimbra template then let me know because the guide for changing domain and hostname available on Zimbra wiki will not help and some different steps are required to change hostname and domainname.

    Enjoy

The following information has been given:

    Nepal

    Therefore TZ='Asia/Kathmandu' will be used.
Local time is now: Thu Aug 23 16:37:01 NPT 2012.
Universal Time is now: Thu Aug 23 10:52:01 UTC 2012.
    Is the above information OK?
    1) Yes
    2) No
    #? 1

You can make this change permanent for yourself by appending the line
    TZ='Asia/Kathmandu'; export TZ
to the file '.profile' in your home directory; then log out and log in again.

Here is that TZ value again, this time on standard output so that you
can use the /usr/bin/tzselect command in shell scripts:
    Asia/Kathmandu
