Default Deferred queue

Hi all!

Looking for a little guidance.

I've recently removed a postfix relay MTA with IP 192.168.30.14. All seems to be working well on our zimbra server with the exception of our deferred mail queue.

Messages that should be bounced because of a bad address are instead queuing up. In the admin GUI, the reason given is "delivery temporarily suspended: connect to 192.168.30.14[192.168.30.14]:25: no route to host.

At first I thought I missed something in DNS, but 192.168.30.14 is no longer listed in any of our mx records.

Why does zimbra seem to be trying to send messages from unknown addresses in our domain to the old relay MTA?

For the simple reason that you most likely have the relay set in ZCS, you need to remove it - go to the wiki for details of how a relay is set and reverse the setting (or search the forums).

Hi phoenix, thanks for your reply.

The relay MTA for external delivery box is blank on both the server settings and global settings.

There would appear to be something in there that's defining a relay judging by the error message you've posted - it's still trying to send mail there. I assume you suspended mail deliver when before you removed the relay entries & DNS records? In what order did you do this - did you remove the relay first then the DNS records? What is the date & time on these messages - is it after you removed the relay? Who sent the mail that show in your deferred queue? Apart form the messages in the deferred queue (how many are there) that you've seen is more mail going to the deferred queue (i.e. if you send an email does it go in the deferred queue)?

The order I took was to stop postfix on the relay MTA, remove the relay entry from zimbra, allow dns lookups, restart zimbra, then remove the old mx records from DNS.

If I send an email from my zimbra server, it goes through fine, and I can reply to that email from an external mail server.

There are about 3600 messages in the deferred queue right now. Any message that is addressed to an account that doesn't exist on that server gets put into the deferred queue with the error message that it has no route to the old relay mta.
