Default Calendar entries being deleted via mobile

Hi all,

I have a user who is having items mysteriously be deleted from his Zimbra calendar. All of these deletions are being done on his phone (Android) but the user is sure they are not deleting anything manually. Its not deleting everything, but it is deleting some calendar items. Any ideas on what can be done to fix this?

Below are a couple examples of this from yesterday's mailbox.log file (user's address replaced with REDACTED, user's secretary who created some or all of the appointments replaced with REDACTED2):

All happy iPhones are alike, but every Android is unhappy in its own way.

I've seen similar with two VIPs. Most phones have an option for a sliding calendar window, typically syncing events 7-30 days into the past plus all future events. With these very special phones, you sync a new item, wait a week past the event date, and the item gets depeted from the phone... AND FROM THE SERVER.

Fixes: Tell the phone to sync all items. As long as you don't have a VIP with a larger back calendar than either the phone or Zimbra can handle, this works. Otherwise, try complaining to the carrier about their stupid software or just buy TouchDown.

Thanks Rich - appreciate the response. I hadn't heard of Touchdown until you mentioned it but did just look it up. Do you use it for anyone? Any problems with it connecting to Zimbra?

As for the deleted calendar entries, its not a humongous deal.
Fortunately the events getting deleted go to the calendar trash (best addition to Zimbra in years) so nothing is truly lost.

It's been mentioned in the forums a few times.

It would seem we've stumbled upon this issue as well, and it seems related to our HTC phones (Desire HD, Wildfire S) getting updated to 2.3.5 with Sense 3.0. The older phones with <=2.2 (Desire, Hero, Wildfire) do not show this behavior. Both types of phones show up as using ActiveSync Protocol 12.0 in the sync.log.

We've set trash to auto-empty after 14 days, so that in combination with the phones moving appointments there after 14 days default... not so great. I've disabled the trash emptying for a bit now, to do some more pinpointing of the issue.

Is there any update on this issue?

We experience similar issues with another groupware solution.

HTC Android 2.3.5 systematically delete calendar entries when they are 14 days old - from phone AND server. Older Androids and iPhones work fine.

A phone to HTC customer service resulted in an advice to "delete the sync profile and set it up again. We have never heard of this before"......

When I contacted HTC their response was "We do not support third party solutions like Zimbra, only Microsoft Exchange" and so now we have to make sure all devices are set to sync *everything* to avoid this.
