Default Zimbra to Zimbra Migration with same hostname possible?

Hello,

I´m running ZCS 7.1.1 on a dedicated server with hostname mail.example.com. Now I want to have it on a new server. What would be the right scenario for the migration?

(A) I could setup Zimbra on the new server with the hostname mail2.example.com. Then I could migrate the data and change the MX entry to mail2.example.com.

(B) Is it possible to keep the hostname mail.example.com with the migration? How?

I hope you can help.

To me it sounds possible to do this, I am trying to evaluate Zimbra as a possible future migration myself.

If your existing server is running in production, on your new server, it could have the hostname of mail2.example.com (with a different IP not in dns and/or mx records). Once you migrate the data over, you could leave the hostname as mail2.example.com (modify the dns/zone files) and reboot the new server letting it come up to see if everything will work. (would be a good idea to test functionality before the cut-over)

Changing dns/zone files would be an additional risk, but if it in a smaller deployment it might not be as much work.
