Default Creating redundancy by moving the mail store to another server

I have Zimbra Open Source running on a ESX with the message store also on the same VM. I would like to move the store to a FreeNAS server and from there do some rsync redundancy to another hard drive....

Is that possible?

The mail server look on another server storing the message store?

you mean move /opt/zimbra/store ? without the db it wouldn't be very useful.

i wouldn't use nfs mounts for zimbra, but if freenas can do iscsi, or you use nfs at the esx level and just create a virtual disk on freenas that would be fine.

Why don't you mount the FreeNAS/SAN as data store and then create a new virtual harddisk, attach the harddisk to the VM and then copy/move all data into new virtual disk.

I don't think that it's a good idea to have a good backup only for message store. I would recommend to have a redundancy backup for all of Zimbra data (/opt/zimbra) folder, not for message store only.

It's pretty obviuous... let's the storage do the work..

And, of course.... do your backups.

So suggesting that I mount the FreeNAS volume in the ESX using over nfs.
Then connecting that to the mail servers VM and mounting it and backing up the /opt/zimbra folder and the other message store /media/store1 as well to the new volume?
