Question Is it Exchange Replacement ?

Hi All,

I want to ask a direct question to Zimbra users/admins.

Is it Exchange Replacement ?
I want to offer Zimbra to my client as complete communication suite.
I want to use price, management and ease of use for my strong points against exchange.

My intention is to use virtual machines for my customers email hosting requirements. I will be forwarding their mx records to our virtual servers.

So;
  1. Can i use 1 VPS/Setup for more than 1 customer ? Or should i use seperate setup for each client ?
  2. Are there any avareage requirement per customer requirement ? For example my customers accounts range between 15-50
  3. Are there any limitation in licensing ? For example can i use 50 licenses in 4 different setup ?

Best regards.

I will answer these to the best of my knowledge. Most of these questions are to be asked to Zimbra sales directly for a more accurate answer.

Is it Exchange Replacement ? I am going to say its mostly an Exchange replacement, but not 100%. Assuming you are going with the NE version of Zimbra then the only drawbacks I have experienced with replacing Exchange 2007 is Notes are not synced to the server. Also little bugs here and there that cause some strange behavior but I try and keep up with the latest version. Benefits is Virus/Spam protection out of the box. Backups out of the box. The list goes on... plus its Linux based, enough said.
  1. Can i use 1 VPS/Setup for more than 1 customer ? Or should i use seperate setup for each client ? VPS/Virtual environments work perfect with the correct backend hardware and setup of course.
  2. Are there any avareage requirement per customer requirement ? For example my customers accounts range between 15-50 Not that I am aware of, but it all depends on load. IMAP? Web clients?
  3. Are there any limitation in licensing ? For example can i use 50 licenses in 4 different setup ? From the sounds of this question you are trying to use a 50 user license on four different servers for different clients? No. You cannot do that. The license is activated to the server its going to be used on. You can do multi server setup to serve multiple customers better, but you still need licenses to cover all the customers if they need NE features.
