Default Impossible to connect to Outlook 2010 with POP3 only

Hello everybody,

I'am newbie with ZImbra and english too... lol
I hope to respect all forum's rules.

SO I installed ZIMBRA 7 on ubuntu.
I can send email and receive from zimbra webmail to outgoing with no problem.
I want to check outlook connection for all the client and I want to connect with POP3 only (without SSL)

I know it's better but I can't for the moment.

So In admin panel :
MTA AGENT : auth enable is checked
MTA AGENT : auth TLS ONLY is unchecked

IN POP
enable POP3 service is checked
enable pop3S service is uncheckek
password text clear is checked

I try with pop3S enable or not but with out success

My error message is :

"unable to connect to server POP3; server has refused login. Please verify login for this account in account parameter. Server answer : -ERR invalid command"

The login and password is ok. There is not login or password problem....
I test with Thunderbird just for test and same problem....
But in webmail all fine.

I looking for during 3 days in zimbra forum , google, etc.. but no luck...There is certainly a parameter in ZIMBRA (maybe with ZMPROV) for enable a trick...

I read too that enable proxy maybe resolved the issue but Phoenix say not need with one server and I have just one server.

Thanks for your help that would be great appreciated

ok i know you have done the settings but try the following

Quote:
su - zimbra
zmprov mcf zimbraImapCleartextLoginEnabled TRUE
zmprov mcf zimbraPop3CleartextLoginEnabled TRUE
zmprov mcf zimbraMtaTlsAuthOnly FALSE
zmcontrol stop
zmcontrol start
PS: zimbra service restart is very imp
This enables the CLAERTEXT login and enable SMTP-AUTH

may be you are not doing SMTP-AUTHENTICATION settings in outlook properly.
follow these instructions and see
Outlook 2010 authenticated SMTP server (default SMTP port 25) setup.
* step 5 and onwards is important

Hello RAJ,

Thanks you for your help.

I try the following as you said but no result.
For Outlook, yes I am already configure this fine (I am knowing outlook beacause I used it with exchange actually )

When I test outgoing all fine but POP3 and IMAP no...

The error message is very strange, the zimbra server respond "cannot connect with username but the username is ok just the pop protocol problem...very strange....

Thanks you

The correct Submission port on your Zimbra server (and any other mail server) is 587 and you will require authentication to send mail through that port - modify Outlook to use that port.

It very strange that outlook cannot connect with prehistorik POP3 protocol....and must configur POP3S to work, I can't accpet it is not possible to configure only pop3..I check every where.. I find post that talk about my problem but no answer...or no solution....

arf there is a very very big problem.... no body are the same ? strange..
I think ZIMBRA with outlook MUST BE CONFIGURED WITH SSL ONLY. Not ok with pop3 and imap (with oulook of course).

If use Outlook, we must configure SSL. it's bad because pop3 is the most used protocol...

I solved this problem :-) Disable POP-IMAP Proxy or use port 7110 for pop3.

You shouldn't have the proxy (nor memcached) installed or enabled for a single server install, if that's what you have then search the forums for details on how to disable and remove it from your server.

Ok I will try this but now we are paid for certificate.
SO We have proxy and memecached installed on the server. SO Phoenix can you explain why it's not a good configuration on only one server ?

Thansk you for all !

The reasons have been mentioned several times in these forums but for a start it's not necessary and wastes RAM & CPU cycles.
