You added your post to a thread that had nothing to do with your question and in the wrong forum, I'll move it to the correct forum.

Is this on the same server and/or is it a 32bit to 64bit upgrade? Have read read some of the forum threads and wiki articles on upgrading ZCS & the operating system (there are several) on the same server? If it's a move to 64bit, there's also a wiki article that covers that, if it's moving to a new server there are also several wiki articles and further threads on the subject - I'd suggest a quick forum and/or wiki search.

From what I have read, yes you can. Keep in mind that I am a complete newbie to Zimbra (recently started a pilot test of this software).

From what I understand of the process, you make a backup of your zimbra installation. Then you wipe out your OS and install the new version. The then install Zimbra using the exact same version you were running when you backed up your server. From what I've read, you can perform a complete install or just a shell install of just the required components. You then rename the /opt/zimbra folder and perform a restore procedure of your backup. If done correctly, you should be ready to go.

If you have Zimbra / Ubuntu installed on "bare metal", I would recommend trying your upgrade procedure using a virtual environment 1st just to be on the safe site and build competence in doing such a task. I don't know if it would be any help to you but I have documented (my notes) an Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS, 64-bit install in this thread.

The process I was talking about was going

from: Ubuntu 8.4, 64-bit with Zimbra 6.0.5
to: Ubuntu 10.04, 64-bit with Zimbra 6.0.5

That is the process I described and have read on the wiki and forums.

Upgrading Zimbra is different. As to which order is best, I don't know. If Zimbra 6.0.5 will work on Ubuntu 10.04, I would personally do that first. Once the OS upgrade is done (and stable), then move on to the next project on upgrading Zimbra to 7.1.3. You certainly don't want to do both at the same time because if you run into an issue, you might not know if it was due to the OS upgrade or the Zimbra upgrade or how you backed up and restored Zimbra.

I also noted in my notes that going from a clean install of 7.1.2 to 7.1.3 failed miserably if I used the new integrity check option. I had to bypass it in order to successfully upgrade to 7.1.3. I "think" there is a bug with that process but I don't know enough about Zimbra to know...and nobody has replied about it yet.
