Default Port 25 not accesible

Hello,

This has been my first Zimbra install. I am loving it and cannot wait to get rid of my Exchange box. All went quite smooth following the instructions posted here:

My Notes for Installing Zimbra 7.1.2 on Ubuntu 10.04

I am on an Ubuntu Server 10.04 and Zimbra 7.1.3.

All works (web client, admin client, locally and remote) except configuring Outlook with pop/smtp or imap. I´ve noticed the problem is that port 25 is not accessible from a remote machine, pop, imap, http are working fine.

If I telnet to port 25 locally it connects and it returns

220 mail.domain.com ESMTP Postfix

If I telnet to port 25 remotely, connection fails.

Firewall on the Ubuntu box has been disabled.

Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions.

GP

You should be using port 587 as the Submission port not port 25.

If you can't telnet to that port from outside your LAN the you either have a firewall problem or you have a NAT device that isn't forwarding the port to the correct LAN IP or something is blocking it, there is no reason why you should not be able to connect to it if you can telnet locally.

Hi Bill,

Thanks, when I said remotely, I mean from another computer on the LAN. The problem was the local firewall. Anyhow, 587 did the trick.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

Kind regards,

GP
