Default Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner

    Hello

I use mxtoolbox to test - > smtp:Test mail server SMTP (port 25)

Then I become warning: Warning - Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner

    How to fix that ??

I read on forum, that I have to change main.cf (smtpd_banner).

    Have someone did that ??

    In my main.cf I found:
    smtpd_banner=$myhostname ESMTP $mail_name

    What I have to change?

    Thanks all

Sounds like the name of your system, and the domain name that your external ip address resolves to, are different.
This does not in itself prevent your system from sending emails, but, there are many email servers that will not accept incoming email if the domain portion of the sending email address does not resolve to the ip address of the sending system.
If the domain name returned by your ip address does not match your mail domain name, then speak to your isp about having that set up, otherwise change the name of your mail server to match.

Go here Reverse DNS Lookup , enter your external ip address, and see if your domain name is returned.

Hello all, I know this thread is a bit old but I have a question. My email server name is mail.server.com, what should i expect to be returned from the rDNS lookup?

    82.xxx.xxx.xxx resolves to
    "xxx.xxx.xxx.82.versanetonline.de"
    Top Level Domain: "versanetonline.de

Should it be just xxx.xxx.xxx.82.server.com or mail.server.com

    Thanks

    Syl

As you've already posted your domain name it seems pointless to obfuscate the rest of the information.

    The current output is this:

    Code:
    dig versanetonline.de mx

    ; <<>> DiG 9.9.1-P3 <<>> versanetonline.de mx
    ;; global options: +cmd
    ;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 31774

Thanks for the reply but versanet is not my doamin. They are my ISP.

What you saw there is the current reply for my rDNS lookup, not what it should be.

With this in mind, does that change your view on what the fix should be?

    Thanks

    Syl

Then it's incorrect, isn't it? Why not just post the correct information from a dig & host so it can be checked?

I am not sure I follow what you are saying. You must excuse me but I am not a huge expert with email and DNS and dont understand what you mean by Dig and host.

I assume that your title of Zimbra Consultant means you work for them as a person on the forum who has the answers and moderates the threads. With this in mind it would be apreceated if you were to show a little respect in your posts rather than your seemingly rude posts. If that was not your intention then I will forgive it.

    Thanks.
