Default zmbackup delete is making the server crash

Im having a big problem and I don't know how to fix it. Right now the zimbra server is at 87% capacity. I figure out that the backup files were the primary reason of this. So I decided to delete all previous backup up to 7 days ago. I tried using the "zmbackup --delete 7d" command but every time I enter the command I get a "server localhost failed to respond" error message and the server crashes. Am I doing something wrong? Any idea why this is happening?
