Default Another Upgrade Issue

We are using Zimbra Collaboration Suite 6.0.8 GA on Ubuntu 6.04, and are planning to go to ZCS 7 on Ubuntu 10.4. No new server, though might go to 64 bits version. Since I am new to Zimbra, please bear with me.

There seem to be quite a few threads on this, but they do not seem to answer one question for me, so one more thread on Upgrade.

It seems from the discussions that the best way to go would be to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.4, download and install ZCS 7 for Ubuntu 10.4. And then......

1. Though the OS can be upgraded, can ZCS be upgraded? Will just installing ZCS 7 on top of ZCS 6 upgrade everything, keeping all the configurations intact? Is there something in ZCS that we can use to upgrade it?
2. Will it be better to build another server with the new OS and ZCS, import all user data and all configuration to ZCS 7? Is importing data even possible?
3. What will be the most convenient way to upgrade, with fail safe route, with minimal down time?

Basically, how do I go about upgrading and re-configuring it so that the end users will have no issues, and will have all their emails and everything, and just have additional features that ZCS 7 has.

Because of different flavors of ZCS on the download page for different versions of OS, I am getting a feeling of chicken and egg...

Any pointers would be appreciated...
TIA

There are plenty of articles that cover the details of moving Zimbra to a new server, take your pick: Site:zimbra.com +"move zimbra" +"new server" - Yahoo! Search Results My advice would be to move to 64bit to save you having to do it later, in you do that then you should follow these instruction (obviously leave out any NE steps).

Phonix,

Thanks for the response.

I have already checked out as you have mentioned. Most of the advices involve migrating to another server. Is that the only route? I cannot upgrade it on the same server?

Obviously, if I do have to build another server, then I will go with 64 bits. Even then, as per direction on the link you have given, I have to use the same version. So does that mean that if I want to go 64 bits, then I first migrate to 64 bits of 6.0 and then upgrade that to 7?

Just another question... Like I mentioned I have 6.0.8 on Ubuntu 6.04. Can I upgrade my OS to 8.04 without disturbing the ZCS, as the download page has a different link for Ubuntu 8.04?

TIA.

Thank you for the links. This was what I was looking for.

Of course. I will come back if I run into any problems.
