Default Migrating from Zimbra 5 to Zimbra 6 or 7

Hello,
I have a Zimbra installation that's 5.0.9_GA_2533 that connects to our own LDAP and has a couple hundred users on it.

I want to move to a new Zimbra installation that will have a new domain name. So far I've set up one of the Zimbra VMWare appliances (6.0.13.406) and I'm looking at ways to move my users to that. Do I want to install 7 for the Migration Wizard tools? If not, what kind of migration tools should I be looking for?

Sorry for such general questions, but I'm new to Zimbra administration.

I guess you mean it uses that external LDP for authentication?

Is this a move from 32bit to 64bit? Is the NE or the OSS version? Have you looked at some of the threads, wiki/blog articles on moving your Zimbra installation to a new server?

Thanks for the reply Bill.

Yes, I mean it uses external LDAP for authentication. The original installation is also 64bit.

Both the old and the proposed new installations are 64 bit and OSS versions.

I'm currently looking around for the most appropriate threads or wiki entries.

There are various articles, take a look at these results: site:zimbra.com +"moving" +"new server" - Yahoo! Search Results

It basically involves a decision on whether to upgrade your current version to the most recent version of Zimbra nd then move it or move it and then upgrade. It also depends on whether you're changing operating systems? Is there some specific reason you're looking at the Zimbra Appliance (I missed this question from my last reply )?

Hi dangons.

If you have to migrate and you have to change the hostname and domain, maybe you can check out ZeXtras Migration Tool, a free tool for Zimbra to Zimbra migrations.

With it the steps for your migration would be fairly straightforward:

- Upgrade your server to Zimbra 6.0.7+ (required by the tool)
- Prepare your new server, install last Zimbra on it and configure it as you want.
- Create your domains on the new server and use Zextras Migration Tool to export your data from tour old new server.
- Install Zextras Suite (with free trial mode) on new server to import all data. All the shared items in a mailbox remain consistent through the migration, as do the ACLs

You can find the ZeXtras Migration Tool in the Zimbra Gallery: ZeXtras Migration Tool | Zimbra :: Gallery
