Question [SOLVED] Delete admin account? Advisable?

Hi everyone

We run a small ZCS server with the Network Edition Starter Pack which gives us 15 mailbox licenses.
I have already given my own account full admin access and I've been using that exclusively over the past few months.
I was wondering whether it's possible or advisable to delete the admin account and add the admin@, administrator@ and postmaster@ mail aliases to my own account.
Doing this would free up one mailbox license for us.

Would it cause any problems?

Cheers, B

And a way to associate mailto: handlers with a Zimbra Prism webapp

You can do this, just be sure to change the localconfig variables which utilize this mailbox:

Code:
zimbra@viognier:~> zmlocalconfig | grep 'admin@'
av_notify_user = admin@reliablenetworks.com
smtp_destination = admin@reliablenetworks.com
smtp_source = admin@reliablenetworks.com
zimbra@viognier:~>
One reason NOT to do this is the risk that your account will get locked out from hackers trying to login with one of the aliases like "postmaster".

We consume an extra license to have an extremely obscurely named mailbox hold all those "postmaster", "webmaster", "abuse" aliases. Several years ago our Admin account got locked out for precisely this reason (we require very complex passwords, have a strict lockout policy and rely on auditswatch for notifications of potential mailbox hack attempts).

IOW, the extra license is very cheap insurance.

Hope that helps,
Mark

That's a very good point about the locking. I hadn't thought about that.
In that case I won't do this. It's not worth the risk just to free up the extra license.

Care to mark this thread as "Solved" then?

Thanks!

Yes, I was going to wait for a day or so to see if anyone else had any info on it first though.

It used to be under the "Thread Tools" drop down menu at the top of the thread. But it disappeared a while ago.
So now the only way I've found is to do a "Full Edit" of the first post in the thread and add [SOLVED] to the title... if there's room!

Cool

Works only half way.
Can't see [SOLVED] in the list, only when reading the post. Maybe because it's a moved post.
