Default Zimbra acting funny, need help please.

For some reason Zimbra is working and then not working. Can anyone tell me what to do to troubleshoot?

I'm running Zimbra 7.1.2_GA_3268 (build 20110804130819) under VMware ESXi Host 4.1. I've installed Ubuntu 10.04-LTS 64-bit as the OS. I've dedicated 2GB ram and 2CPU's to the VM Guest. In addition my actual server is a Xeon 2.4 Ghz & 4GB ram.

What's weird is that when I reboot the VM Guest I can access Zimbra by accessing my server at mail.redcarpetfinancial.com.

However, after running for a while it ends up dying on me and then I can only access the Admin panel but not the user web interface.

I've go no idea why it is doing this. All I know is right now when I login to the shell via ssh it gives me:
Code:
Welcome to the Ubuntu Server!
 * Documentation:  http://www.ubuntu.com/server/doc

System information as of Wed Aug 24 13:36:17 EDT 2011

  System load: 0.44 Processes: 135
Usage of /home: 0.2% of 121.06GB Users logged in: 0
Memory usage: 69% IP address for eth0: 192.168.2.50
  Swap usage: 0%

Graph this data and manage this system at https://landscape.canonical.com/

0 packages can be updated.
0 updates are security updates.
Can someone please help me troubleshoot this?

Also: I tried sending an email to the inbox within Zimbra and it did not work. I tried sending OUT an email from the Zimbra inbox and it did not work.

Previously it was working fine. (before this web accessing issue).

I then rebooted the server and the email that I tried sending before the reboot ended up going through. I then tried sending OUT another one (after the reboot) and it worked perfectly. I then sent another email INTO the Zimbra inbox and it worked fine.

This seems really weird.

What are your logs saying at the time of failure? What does zmcontrol status show?

I'm currently in the middle of building an ESXi 4.1 server myself with Ubuntu 10.04.

Which logs would you like me to get?

/var/log/zimbra.log
/opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log

Don't forget the zmcontrol status

Okay... There is a TON of information in the logs, but I didn't see any error messages. I've deleted the logs and will wait until the next time it "breaks" and then I'll look at the time and check again.

Everything seems to be fine right now.

I just tried restarting the SNMP service and this is what I got:
Code:
$ sudo -u zimbra /opt/zimbra/bin/zmcontrol start
[sudo] password for jthornton:
Host mail.redcarpetfinancial.ca
        Starting zmconfigd...Done.
        Starting logger...Failed.
Starting logswatch...failed.

        Starting mailbox...Done.
        Starting antispam...Done.
        Starting snmp...Done.
        Starting spell...Done.
        Starting mta...Done.
        Starting stats...Done.

Okay... I was reading some threads and it seems that someone else had an issue like this however, I'm not sure if they were able to permanently solve it or not.

I su'd over to the zimbra user, stopped everyting using $ zmcontrol stop and then restarted it. Everything loaded correctly.

I guess it somehow dropped some settings in the .bashrc file or something. It had something to do with the PERL enviroment variable or something.

I'll keep my eye on it and see what happens.

Jim,

Haven't had time to review today. Are things still running? If not, you may also glean a bit of info in the /var/log/syslog, /var/log/messages or even in the /var/log/mail logs
