Default Zimbra Full Backups Running Multiple Times a Week (and shouldn't be)

Hi guys,

We're having a weird issue with Zimbra where multiple full backups are written to disk per week, where only one is scheduled. You'll notice below that although we've only scheduled a full backup to be run once per week, they are running multiple times, sometimes only an hour apart.

(Using Release 6.0.12_GA_2883.RHEL5_64_20110305232032 RHEL5_64 NETWORK edition.)

Is there anywhere else besides the crontab which can schedule a backup that I've missed? We've only noticed this behaviour since upgrading from 6.0.8.

Our crontab looks like this

# BACKUP BEGIN
0 1 * * 6 /opt/zimbra/bin/zmbackup -f -a all
0 * * * 0-5 /opt/zimbra/bin/zmbackup -i
0 0 * * * /opt/zimbra/bin/zmbackup -del 1m
# BACKUP END

And the backup directory like this

Jul 16 06:03 full-20110715.150006.397
Jul 21 13:01 full-20110721.030100.598

are you adding new accounts? if you add a new account, a full backup is run the next time any backup is ran, even if it's scheduled for incremental only.

the full should only contain a full backup of the new account though, not every account

Hi bdial,

Yes we are adding new accounts, we generally add a fair number each week (although usually in batches which is why there aren't more full backups).

Is this new functionality? Is there any way to turn it off, given that our disk space is fairly restricted at the moment?

Thanks

no this is built into the functionality of the backup system for good reason. if you add an account on a tuesday, and you want to restore that account on thursday, if it doesn't have a full backup to work off of then it can't do anything wth the redologs

if the accounts you add are starting fresh, i.e. you're not importing a ton of mail to the account, then the full backups you see midweek should be miniscule in size.
