Question DNS issues

I'm wanting zimbra to receive and send email via my website domain using POP3 and SMTP.
I have named my zimbra server zmail.mydomain.com. You can access my website at mydomain.com also. I used the SpiltDNS to install and configure dnsmasq.

When i "dig mydomain.com mx" or "mydomain.com any" I get my actual hosting account details. Do i need to change my zimbra domain to something else other than mydomain.com?
I also have access to edit my hosting account DNS. I can make my MX and A record point to my zimbra server if needed. Which will be easier to do or what do I have to do?

If you've read the Split DNS article (or searched the forums) then you'd know to which IP your DNS records are supposed to be pointing. Go to the article and check your configuration by running all the commands in the 'Verify...' section of that article, this question has been asked and answered many times in the forums if you'd also care to do a search.
