Default Upgrade 7.0 to 7.1 Failed

I'm trying to upgrade to 7.1 from 7.0, but I can't succeed because during the install, after the packages upgrade when Mysql should start it give the message
    Starting mysqld ...
and it doesn't, it stays there forever.
I tryied to see in the logs to understand the reason, but I couldn't find errors.
Please, what can I do to find the error and fix it.

Best regards to everybody and thanks to replying people,

    Andrea

    Hi Andrea,

I guess you made sure all your services were properly shutdown before the upgrade.(with 'zmcontrol stop' and 'ps aux | grep zimbra')

Posting the logs here may help. Can you paste zmsetup.log of upgrade? Some lines before and after the halt.

What services have you been running on this server? (never forget to write about the services while facing an issue. that could help)

    Thank You for your reply,

yes, the services were stopped. I stopped them as root by means of
    /etc/init.d/zimbra stop
and before (in the past weeks) I verified many times that it gets the same result of zmcontrol stop as zimbra user, it is there were no more zimbra processes in memory and anyway it seems to me that also the installer try to stop them.
zmsetup.log (at now no more present, because I rebooted the server and it was in /tmp) showed only the attempt tu start mysql as zimbra user, many many times, but unsuccessfully I think, because it continued to try again after few minutes.
In the error log of mysql there aren't anything about that.
The services that run on this server are the default ones of the vanilla Install.
Now I realize that I have disabled LDAP from the Zimbra Administration Console.
Maybe I can try to enable it again before the install, I'll do and then I'll come back here to let you know the result.

    Regards and thanks again,

    Andrea

    I wrote mistakenly 7.0 --> 7.1, instead it is
    from 7.1.0_GA_3140 to 7.1.1_GA_3196

I launched the installer and veryfied the integrity of the db:

Do you want to verify message store database integrity? [Y]
Verifying integrity of message store databases. This may take a while.
    Starting mysqld...done.
    mysqld is alive
    Database errors found.
    /opt/zimbra/mysql/bin/mysqlcheck --defaults-file=/opt/zimbra/conf/my.cnf -S /opt/zimbra/db/mysql.sock -A -C -s -u root --password=teyXSQvW.DxjDvKgqz36eqXZG64cl --auto-repair
    mysql.general_log
Error : You can't use locks with log tables.
    mysql.slow_log
Error : You can't use locks with log tables.
    mysqld is alive
    Stopping mysqld... done.

With some past search in Zimbra forums I've found that such errors don't seem to be serious or blocking but only like irrelevant warnings (I hope)

    [...]

    then

Do you wish to upgrade? [Y]

    Select the packages to install
    Upgrading zimbra-core
    Upgrading zimbra-ldap

    Upgrading zimbra-snmp
    Upgrading zimbra-store

    [...]

It removes old packages and install the new ones, then

I just searched a bit on the error, and it seems that your db has been corrupted somewhere that is causing upgrade to halt. Like you said the threads suggest ignoring those warnings and proceeding with install since the installer will itself do it. But this is not helping in your case. So I think doing a myisam check of you db will help.

    MySQL recovery

Try running it before the upgrade and after stopping zimbra. I hope this helps.

Unfortunately I am running out of battery.

myisamchk doesn't solved. I've found another post where the problem were symlinks under /opt/zimbra, db and data to others partitions, like in my case that is worse, because I have only one other big partition where I made directory symlinked from those under /opt/zimbra.
In my case I'll have to backup, partition again and then use directly such partitions mounted under /opt/zimbra maybe with bind parameter.
I don't know if that could solve my trouble but it's an attempt to do.

hmm, sounds like it could be the reason. I think you can also try to move /opt/zimbra to a larger disk so to keep db and data under one location.

I already toke them and put under /opt/zimbra, but the installer doesn't upgrade because it needs at least 5 GB free under /opt/zimbra and instead now I have only 4 GB. Do you know which could be a right size for db and data with about 100 users and what is their relationship with the size of /opt/store, if there is one?

Store is where your messages will be stored after it arrives. And if you don't require 'HSM' storage (if yes zimbra will take out old messages to the HSM partition you have specified. The retention is configured in server settings. Mine is 45 days after which mails older than that will be take to the HSM storage) you should consider some more space within your /opt/zimbra partition for store.

The /opt/zimbra/db is the data store where metadata of messages along with pointers to where messages reside are stored. Within it is data directory. So I believe for a 100 accounts you should be good with a 10G space for datastore. Now this excludes message store, so after considering the mailbox of the users you have to add space for holding mails too.

I guess a 20G drive space for /opt/zimbra partition (includes store) should be good now and when accounts grow, you can create an HSM partition with respect to the mailbox size of account and configure it.

    Thx.

At now I upgraded, it works and my partitions are like this:

    /dev/sdb1 10317828 4536744 5256968 47% /opt
    /dev/sdc5 2064208 162712 1796640 9% /opt/zimbra/data
    /dev/sdc6 4128448 834228 3084508 22% /opt/zimbra/index
    /dev/sdc7 10321208 2000508 7796412 21% /opt/zimbra/db
    /dev/sdc8 221070372 14896984 194943628 8% /opt/zimbra/store

I had only to enable the ldap service, because without the upgrade didn't worked.
