Default Kaspersky Integeration with Zimbra

Dear All,

I have implemented a mail server with Zimbra CS 7.1.1GA (Opensource Edition) it is working fine. The only problem I am facing is the users are receiving excessive number of spam mails. So i have decided to install Kaspersky Anti Spam 3.0.284.1 By following the documentation in the URL Product Documentation. Also I have integrated the kaspersky with the postfix as per the instruction given in the 28th page of the above said document by executing the following the command

# /usr/local/ap-mailfilter3/bin/config-postfix.pl <path>

When i searched for the master.cf file fo the postfix I found that there are two master.cf files in two different locations and I have executed the same command for both the files.

# /usr/local/ap-mailfilter3/bin/config-postfix.pl /opt/zimbra/postfix-2.7.4.2z/conf/master.cf

# /usr/local/ap-mailfilter3/bin/config-postfix.pl /opt/zimbra/postfix-2.7.4.2z/libexec/master.cf

After some times I came to know that zimbra overrides the master.cf file at regular interval of time and it removes the kaspersky entries in the file.

Please guide me how to integrate kaspersky antispam with zimbra.

You shouldn't need to install any other anti-spam software and it will make your Zimbra installation more complicated to manage. You'd be far better addressing the current situation and finding out what the problem is. Search the forums (and wiki) for details on how to improve the ant-spam system and give some further explanation of what the problem actually is.

Is there a way to tell amavisd to use kaspersky instead of spamassassin?

I would not do that, but if you really want to use Kaspersky in addition to the virus filtering ClamAV in Zimbra does, the easiest way to do is to have Amavis manage it, rather than Postfix.

To do so, take a look at /opt/zimbra/conf/amavisd.conf.in.

At the end of the file you will find two sections for primary and backup scanners.

When Amavisd launches, it looks for all of the executables listed in that section, and if they exist, includes them in processing emails.

In Zimbra, *.in files are used by Zimbra to configure the actual configuration files. IOW, each time Zimbra is restarted, the existing amavisd.conf file is replaced with a new version, created based on what's in the amavisd.conf.in file. Many versions ago, most Zimbra configurations were done this way, but now most configurations are found in localconfig or LDAP. This is one of the few remaining.

I agree with Phoenix that Kaspersky is not likely to find things that ClamAV won't, and since you'll need to re-customize amavisd.conf.in each time you upgrade Zimbra, it may not be worth it. Also, the extra processing will increase the RAM and I/O requirements of your server. You may wish to consider adding a RAM disk for Amavis's temporary files to speed things up.

Hope that helps,
Mark
