Default Migrate from 5.0.26 (Mac) to 7.1.1 (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS) - Network Edition

I'm starting to prepare for an upgrade from 5.0.26 Network Edition running on Mac OS X Server to 7.1.1 running on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (64bit).

From what I gather at Network Edition: Moving from 32-bit to 64-bit Server - Zimbra :: Wiki I am supposed to make sure that I migrate from 5.0.26 to 5.0.26 (64bit) so that the setup survives the transition to 64bit.

Network Edition Downloads: Enterprise Messaging and Collaboration Software by Zimbra doesn't have a build for 10.04 LTS for 5.0.26. Will I be OK if I install the 8.04 LTS build on the new 10.04 LTS box?

No, you will not be OK to do that. I'd suggest you upgrade your current MAC server to a version (6.x) that will allow you to move to the version of Ubuntu that you require. When you've done that and moved your installation to Ubuntu using the 6.x version you should be able to upgrade to the current 7.1.x version without problems. Make sure you read the Release notes before you make the upgrade/move and take adequate backups at every stage.

The reason I haven't upgraded Zimbra on this server to 6.x is that I've read (somewhere; in these forums) that Zimbra 6.x doesn't play well with Mac OS X 10.5.x.

Will I be OK if I upgrade this install to 6.x?

I guess you'll have to do a several steps migration.

That means you need two servers (or VM), one being temporary.

First, 5.0.26 on OSX to 5.0.26 on Linux (8.04 LTS ?).
It's an hardware/OS change, no ZCS upgrade.

Then upgrade 5.0.26 to 6.0.13, on the same server (the temp one).

Then 32 to 64 bits upgrade, from the temp server to the "new" one (the new one running 10.04 LTS).
It's once again an hardware/OS change, no ZCS upgrade.

Once you're on your new 64bit server, you can upgrade to 7.1.x.
