I will try to install netcat on my test / dev server running 7.1.1 and see if it makes difference. I will report my findings here in a bit.

Cheers
lsikstrom, Thanks for that info!

Also make sure that which (/usr/bin/which) is installed too. I had netcat installed, but not which and had similar problem with zmcontrold after upgrading to 7.1.1 .

I just did a fresh install of NE 7.1.2 on CentOS6 x_64 and found I did not have zmconfigd running. A quick check here found your solution. I can't imagine how you figured that out, but it worked for me.

nc.x86_64 needed to be installed. (yum install nc.x86_64)
'zmcontrol restart' and everything is fine.

I think we need to file a bug on this

i guess he gave a look to zmconfigdctl that contains:

NC=`which nc 2>/dev/null`; NC=${NC:-`which netcat 2>/dev/null`}

Thanks maumar.
Filed a bug report that the installer should check existence of nc on installation an warn user.

the issue arose by the fact that many of us who installed CentOS 6 used minimal cd,
Code:
CentOS-6.0-x86_64-minimal.iso
and netcat is not included in it

If you used the current ZCS 7.1.3 you should have seen a requirement to install netcat, didn't you see that or are you installing some other release of ZCS?
