Default Configuring mycompany.com Email Server

Hello,

I'm running Release 5.0.18 Community Edition on a Turnkey Linux VM.

Software is loaded and the example.com domain seems to be configured just fine.

Now I want to add my own email server for domain: mycompany.com

Under servers I can see example.com - but there does not seem to be any way to add another email server OR a way to fix this one to point to mycompany.com.

Could someone provide advice on how to set this up? Or provide a link to good documentation about this? (Everything I've found has been too general.)

Thanks!
SqueezeOJ

I don't understand what you mean by that statement. You can add as many domains as you like to Zimbra, what else do you need or what exactly are you trying to do.

BTW, the server page in the Admin UI is for a multi-server Zimbra installation and nothing else. You should also note that the Turnkey Linux is nothing to do with Zimbra or these forums other than it's a pre-installed Zimbra server.

Default Single Server Version

Your reply helps me understand...

Since this is a single-server version, I can't add another server -- and the server I'm using, named "mail.example.com" was configured by me when I created the VM.

So, the next question is why am I asking? Because I can send email from my server but not receive it. So, I was wondering if this is because my mail server is not properly named?

Assuming everything else is setup properly should I be able to receive email for me@mydomain.com on my mail server: mail.example.com ?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, you can receive mail for any domain that's hosted on zimber whether it matches the hostname, or not. I assume you're behind a NAT router? If you are have you set-up a Split DNS (you'll need one behind NAT)? You should also look in the log files to see what errors you're getting if mail isn't getting into your server.

Default Wht if I used a DMZ ?

You're right - my Zimbra VM is behind a NAT. I'm using port-forwarding to handle traffic. I guess that if I want to use this setup then I'm going to have to setup a SplitDNS, like you mention.

But, what if I pointed the DMZ on my router to my Zimbra server? Would that make the SplitDNS unneccessary?

Thanks!

A DMZ exposes your server to the internet, it's more secure to use a Split DNS.
