External Active Directory Authentication with Secondary DC

We are currently authenticating into an (external) AD W2K8 R2. The other day the W2K8 server went down for a while and we lost authentication.

Does a mechanism exist for authenticating with our secondary domain controller in this case?

Add the secondary DC into the list of LDAP servers in "Configure Authentication" for the domain. I have two DCs in mine and it works just fine when either one is down.
