ExternalGAL Setup no errors - but GAL not populating with data

I recently changed from an InternalGAL to and externalGAL (backupmail server) to get gal lookups against our primary mail server, the setup seems to have completed with our errrors, the LDAP test returned valid test results, but after forcing the sync and waiting the polling period, when i look up the gal in the console it has no data.

GAL sync account name: galsync@backupmail.company.com

External GAL polling interval:15 minutes

LDAP
LDAP filter: zimbraMailStatus=enabled

no Bind DN
