Default Install of ZCS 7 after crash of ZCS 6. What is the best strategy?

Hello,

We have been using Zimbra 6 (ZCS 6.0.5) on a server with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (32 bit). Yesterday night this server crashed (hardware issue).

We are moving now to a new server, and I thought it could be the opportunity to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.4 LTS (64 bit) and ZCS 7.0. We have a full backup of the former install (with all datas).

But I don't know if I can do this directly (install Ubuntu 10.4, then ZCS 7.0, then restore), or if I have to reinstall ZCS 6 on Ubuntu 8.04, then restore datas, then upgrade OS and ZCS.

Anyone who can help ?

Thanks

JM

You can't easily move from 32bit to 64bit systems using the method you've described above, take a look at the wiki article: Network Edition: Moving from 32-bit to 64-bit Server - Zimbra :: Wiki (yes, it also applies to the OSS version) and some of the forum threads on the subject: site:zimbra.com +32bit +64bit +solved - Yahoo! Thanks Bill,
So I go first with the emergency (restoring server and data in initial state) and we will look at this later.
Cheers,
JM

If your 'failed' server is now back in service I'd suggest you do a disaster recovery on that server (with the same operating system and ZCS version) then consider the move to a 64bit server (that should not be done without reading the wiki article and planning the move, IMO).
