Sorry i can't help, my psychic powers have failed today. Most common problem with tomcat not starting is other apps already sitting on the ports (ie 110, 143).

try shutting down your imapproxy.........by logging in as root and 'su - zimbra'
then
zmperditionctl stop
tomcat start
and let me know how you make out.....
I just discovered that if my imapproxy is running...tomcat will not run...and if imapproxy is stopped...then tomcat will start......
..so...what does this mean...it means that my imapproxy is incorrectly configured to listen on either port 110 or 143 causing a conflict with tomcat....and I'm still in the process of sorting this new relevation out.....
...but I'm curious if you have the same problem as I do...
I'm running on FC4.....what are you running on...???
I'm still very happy with ZIMBRA.....this little problem is NOTHING compared to the problems I used to have with MS/EXCHANGE.......once I found zimbra....I gave my MS SMALLBUSINESS SERVER 2000 SOFTWARE away...never to been seen or heard from again........![]()
Check if you are using an UTF8 charset on your system.Originally Posted by chenthil
If it is so, change the variable in /etc/sysconfig/i18n to
LANG="en_US"
and restart the system.

turns out that you cannot have a imap and pop3 proxy service configured on a single zimbra server......I had the imap and pop3 proxy ports configured in the admin panel.....so I just blanked out the port numbers for the imap and pop3 server ports and voila....all is well after a zimbra restart.....
so good luck....![]()
Admin panel? do you mean the web interface or somewhere else
Yes, he means the admin ui.

I am having the exact same issue as this except I cannot access the admin ui due to the tomcat server being down. How does one remove the imapproxy settings.
Additionally I have no zmprov - when I run it it comes up with the following error
Any help would be greatCode:zimbra@greenstone:/root$ zmprov [] INFO: I/O exception (java.net.ConnectException) caught when processing request: Connection refused [] INFO: Retrying request [] INFO: I/O exception (java.net.ConnectException) caught when processing request: Connection refused [] INFO: Retrying request [] INFO: I/O exception (java.net.ConnectException) caught when processing request: Connection refused [] INFO: Retrying request ERROR: zclient.IO_ERROR (invoke Connection refused, server: localhost) (cause: java.net.ConnectException Connection refused)
So I did the same thing as you did and all seems to be working again. I'm curious to know, you blanked out the port numbers for the IMAP and POP3 Server ports, does this mean you are not using those protocols on this system and therefore just took out a port to listen on, or is this one of those small quirks about the system?
Thanks,
Rusty.
This is how I fixed it - imapproxy should not be turned on within a single server - it creates terrible problems when the server is restarted or zimbra is restarted
Tomcat won't start and thus zmprov is not available
I did this and it fixed it
1. zmperiditionctl stop
2. zmcontrol status
* imapproxy should be stopped
3. zmmtactl start <- probably not needed but I did it all the same
4. tomcat start
5. Go into the admin panel in your browser and remove the checkbox next to imapproxy in the server control panel and remember to never ever check that box again
6. zmcontrol restart - and imapproxy should start
Done
