Question [SOLVED] ZCS 7 IM Settings?

I might be going blind, but where are the settings for IM in ZCS 7?
Weren't they previously in the COS settings?

Regards,
Sean.

You do realise that the IM server is being removed from Zimbra in the next major release, don't you? It is also considered Beat software and is not recommended for production environments. There are several threads in the forums that cover the subject.

No Bill I didn't. I'm not really sure why I don't know this either.
As an administrator for a home FOSS system and a business NE system I have the feeling I am missing out on this important information.

Where do I find this info?

Regards,
Sean.

You'll find the announcement in the Release Notes and further details in the bug report: Bug 45932 – Remove IM server As I said, there's also several recent threads on the subject.

Thanks, eventually found a link to a thread regarding the issue after trying several search terms.
What concerns me is that this info is not being sent directly to administrators.
Very hard to plan ahead when you don't know about, and honestly forums are not that easy to find info - sometimes.
Unless one lives in the forums/bug tracker how am I supposed to know all this?
My company heavily utilises the chat features of ZCS, and I know I can whip up a Jabber server in minutes, but who is making these decisions? Who has asked the customer what they think or want? Not everyone would be living in the forums!

Please don't take this personally Bill - I'm not having a go at you, but I am just surprised about this and other things going on.

Thanks for the info, I will see what else I can now find.

Regards,
Sean.

For those reading this thread and don't know about this pending change, I found this thread informative:
Future of IM (instant messaging) client in Zimbra

These changes are always (AFAIK) announced in the Release Notes.

The IM Server is (has always been?) slightly 'flaky, It would appear to me that the decision to remove it is a sensible one and should improve the stability of the core server features.

I don't really know what the answer is to 'notifying users' about upcoming changes to the products, perhaps keep in regular touch with your sales contact perhaps an regular mailshot or just a mailshot when something significant is about to happen (such as the IM server being removed). The only problem is that you're never going to please everyone and I would imagine that the final decision is likely to always remain with Zimbra.

Found the small bit in the release notes. It does not refer the reader to any further info or advise how to prepare for the change.

Understand what you are saying, just hope Zimbra realise they need to communicate these changes in product (beta or not) better to their many customers.

It would be helpful if we could have a clearer idea of what will happen so to start preparing a suitable chat server.

Got a few links to read now so hopefully will piece it together.

Regards,
Sean.

It does mention the bug report although I guess most people don't like reading through a document that long.

I believe they do but sometimes a company might need to be prodded slightly.

I'm sure that will arrive eventually but see my comment above.

I don't know if you've seen this bug report yet, have a look at the Functional Requirements for 7.x - draft0.2 in comment #38.

Seems the idea of removing IM is not very popular:
