I have a CentOS 5.8 w/ 7.2.0 and i migrated to CentOS 6 7.2.0, zimbra opensource
I got this error and the cause was that pointed by Bill aka Phoenix
i started new zimbra without changing it's ipCode:t your DNS A & MX records are non-existent or incorrect and/or you have an invalid /etc/hosts file

Hi,
I am installing zimbra 7.2 64 bit on Fedora 11please help me understand this -
same error zmcontrol start as well... I understand its something with DNS and firewall, but im not able to get through -Code:zmcontrol status Unable to determine enabled services from ldap. Unable to determine enabled services. Cache is out of date or doesn't exist.
However this is my vi /etc/hosts entries -
and i got this while su zimbraCode:127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4 localhost jc_library_app ::1 localhost.localdomain localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6 localhost jc_library_app 192.168.2.9 jc_library_app.in mail
but it did log me into the user.Code:trying to create local folder /opt/zimbra/.kde: Permission denied trying to create local folder /opt/zimbra/.kde: Permission denied
and even before that while doing setup -

That's not correct and the wiki article on this Split DNS tells you what the correct format is.
That command is incorrect (it should be this (not the hyphen "-" it's necessary):
Code:su - zimbra
You need valid DNS A & MX records and a domain name (not localhost).
That's hardly surprising.
BTW. Why have you added this to a thread that's marked a 'Solved' when you appear not to have taken any notice of the information in this thred (nor any other information in the forums)?

Yes, I did go through a few threads about this error and hence i did not create a new thread. 2. I'm new to the terms - "LDAP" , configuring bind etc. so,it is a lil difficult to understand everything at once. 3. I tried editing named.conf but whatever is present in my system is a lot concise n different from what is shown in the SPLITDNS article. (im using bind 8.0 and fc11 couldnt upgrade to later versions)

Code:su - zimbraI want to change the localhost to a proper domain (i.e jc_library_app.in ) and it shows config file is saved at : /opt/zimbra/config.9322 but when i vi the file .. nothing shows up. could it be that the installation is corrupted?

Wll you should have created a new thread, adding to a 'Solved' thread means it likely to get missed.
The Split DNS article is only a guideline as each Linux distribution puts the BIND files in whatever location they feel is appropriate to them. Try using webmin to manage your server and DNS.
No the installation isn't corrupted it's becase you do not have valid A & MX DNS records - you need them before you install Zimbra. I'd suggest you uninstall Zimbra (using "./install.sh -u" - that will remove all the files and the /opt/zimbra directory structure) then read the SPlit DNS article again for details of what you need in your DNS records plus the /etc/hosts file plus the resolv.conf. You can confirm the configuration by running all the commands in the 'Verify...' section of that article to make sure everything is correct. When you've satisfied yourself that all is OK reinstall ZCS.
Nobody said it was you that marked it as solved.
I'd also suggest you choose a more suitable Linux distribution for you mail server, a (old) bleeding edge consumer distribution is not a suitable platform for a stable mail server.
