Default calendar ics import - send meeting email to participants

I am adding several hundred calendar appointments by importing an ics file. This is the easiest way I have found because the dates do not occur/recur in a predictable pattern. I made a script to build the ics file from some user input, and zimbra imports the events and adds them to the calendar perfectly. The issue I have is that no invitation email is sent out to any of the participants listed in the ics file. Is this expected behavior? Do I need to email the ics file to the participants after I add the events to the calendar?

Maybe there is a better way to add several hundred random appointments.

Thanks so much for any suggestions.

Ben

Can I ask how you are adding the ics file?
Using the import function in the GUI or a command?

many thanks.

This wiki page might be helpful. You can import your ics files using curl or zmmailbox.
I didn't try anything out yet.

As far as I know this is not sending any invitation mail.

I imported the cal events through the GUI. I want the users to be able to do the import themselves.

Ok. Anyway, I tested this import command and it's working nicely on 7.1.1. There is no invitation email sent, the appointment simply shows up in the calendar:
Code:
zmmailbox -z -m test1@domain.com pru /Calendar cal.ics
..to be executed as the zimbra user.
If you want invitations you could to start from an existing event (i.e. with a UID field in the ics file) and then send mails either from the GUI or with a script..
To know how the ics file should look like you can create an event, then rightclick on it and have a look at the original fields assuming this is possible in version 6.
