Default [SOLVED] MTA deliver local domain with MX

Hi,

We have added domain xyz.com to the system.
the MX record for XYZ.com i mail.xyz.com and mail.xyz.com resolves (after 2 additional CNAME records and the A record of zimbra.abc.com) to our zimbra IP.

When the message is sent to doe@xyz.com it is being delivered to our MTA but gets to the Deffered queue. The error is:

connection to zimbra.abc.com[PUBLIC.IP.AS IN.DNS] :7025 time out.

Why does it want to connect to such address ?

The MTA is on the same server as mailbox store.

Andrzej

You should not use CNAME records for your mail server DNS, usa A & MX records only.

Is this a single server and is it behind a NAT router (or firewall)? What's the output of the following command:

Code:
zmcontrol status

Thank's.
Why shouldn't I use CNAME for mail server, are there any non-zimbra issues with it?

zmcontrol status gives everything ok.

the single server is behind the firewall (with 7025 blocked on public IP, and open on localhost)and I solved the problem by unchecking th resolve DNS in the MTA settings and adding the fqhn to hosts.

Is it so that the MTA takes from LDAP the mailstore server name than resolves it to an IP and tries to connect with LMTP? If yes that would be the reason.

You shouldn't use a CNAME with any mail server it's not good practice and you may lose email.

I didn't want to know that, I wanted to see the output.

You need to set-up a Split DNS so the server can resolve it's IP address or open the port in the firewall.

That's it the Split DNS.

Thanks!
