Default Restore 5.x backup to 6.x server?

Hi,

I have backups made from Zimbra 5.x, and I'm planning to move to 6.x.

Will the backups I made in 5.x restore under 6.x? (Network Edition)

Gerald

You need to restore to the same version of Zimbra on the New server, details in this wiki article: Network Edition Disaster Recovery - Zimbra :: Wiki

Ummm, wow?

I'm not building a new server, I'm just upgrading from 5.x to 6.x (finally). So you're saying that I lose access to over a years worth of backups after the upgrade? Ouch.

I have users that come to me and say "Oops, I deleted an email last month (or more), and I need to see it again." I do a restore to a new user, get the email, and give it to the existing user. I can't do that any more? As soon as I upgrade, I'm lose access to all my backups?

If Phoenix said it - its almost guaranteed to be right.

What you can do (and what we did when we moved from 5.x to 6.x) is moved our old backups to a virtual machine running 5.x. If we needed to do a restore for an account or two, we would restore to the 5.x VM, and then export the account (or more likely, the one or two folders needed) from the GUI and import it back into the 6.x system.

For disaster recovery (not accidentally deleted data by users) just make sure to do a full backup of your 6.x system right after the upgrade.
