Default Upgrade Path from ZCS Ubuntu 8.04 (6.0.8) to Ubuntu 10.04 (6.0.10)

Hi,

What would be the correct way to upgrade ZCS Ubuntu 8.04 (6.0.8) to Ubuntu 10.04 (6.0.10)? Do I need to upgrade to ZCS Ubuntu 8.04 (6.0.10) first, then to ZCS Ubuntu 10.04 (6.0.10)? Or straight away upgrade ZCS Ubuntu 8.04 (6.0.8) to Ubuntu 10.04 (6.0.10) will do?

Thanks,
Det

det, zimbra's got 6.0.10 for Ubuntu 8.04 too so I think your choice should depend on what version of Ubuntu you are planning to use. If its Ubuntu 8 that you would like to stick to, you can upgrade straight to ZCS 6.0.10 for that version.

ZCS 6.0.10 for Ubuntu 10.04 should mean that its for that particular one, so I think you should opt it if you plan for 10.04. Please correct me if I've understood query wrong.

hi fyd,

my question actually is what would be the proper way to upgrade

ZCS 6.0.8 Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 64bit --> ZCS 6.0.10 Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bit

Should it be

1. Upgrade Ubuntu 8.04 LTS to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
2. Upgrade ZCS 6.0.8 Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 64bit to ZCS 6.0.10 Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bit

OR

1. Upgrade ZCS 6.0.8 Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 64bit to ZCS 6.0.10 Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 64bit
2. Upgrade Ubuntu 8.04 LTS to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
3. Upgrade ZCS 6.0.10 Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 64bit to ZCS 6.0.10 Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bit

Current Platform
Ubuntu 8.04 LTS
ZCS 6.0.8 Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 64bit

Desired Platform
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
ZCS 6.0.10 Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bit

Thanks,
Det

imho, this would be the ideal option. It should be a safe transition. But before that, let me ask you .. is this a migration? Do you have production mailserver running with mailboxes at present?

Hello dear Zimbra developers and users! Happy new year!
I have same question.

Upgrade process on 1 server (this isn't migration, same server).

I have ZCS 6.10 on Ubuntu 8.04 64 bit. My steps:

1) Stop zimbra server. (zmcontrol stop)
2) In ubuntu: do-release-upgrade --proposed
3) After ubuntu upgrade from 8.04 to 10.04 system will reboot (and ZCS server for 8.04 will try start on upgraded 10.04???)
4) In ubuntu 10.04 I install ZCS 6.10 for Ubuntu 10.04.

Is this correct?

Yeah this should be fine if everything goes well. Good luck.

You could get some dependency errors or mismatch while you do that on an upgraded OS.

Hello det, okay since it is an upgrade within the same machine, there shouldn't be much worries. But it is always good to have full backups, off-site as well. Good luck with it.

Default ZCS Ubuntu 8.04 (6.0.8) to Ubuntu 10.04 (6.0.10) MIGRATION: NEW HARDWARE

Hello there,

Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread:

A couple days ago, one of my ZCS 6.0.8 on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS systems had a RAID1 complete failure with a couple of 1 month old 1TB Seagate SAS Drives (Part Number ST31000640SS 9EF248-003).
That's 3 of those drives that have failed on me now.....

I'm also having serious doubts about the RAID controller as well.

Thankfully the disaster recovery to a temporary server worked fabulously well. :-)

Anyway, it looks like we're going to have to go for a new server, so I thought I'd upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and ZCS 6.0.10 at the same time.

So, I'm wondering if this would work on a new server:

Build OS: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
Install dependencies and split DNS.
Copy in entire /opt/zimbra from old UB8.04 server DO NOT START IT.
Run upgrade install of ZCS 6.0.10

Whaddya think ?

Many thanks !

Hi,

You need to first run zimbra install once (software only). Then u can copy /opt/zimbra and upgrade.
