Default ??huh?

Are you running a spamming service? sending 5000 messages? Are these to your own users? You know if your server sends too many messages to gmail, hotmail, or yahoo, etc. they will automatically block you after a few hundred messages in one day - (some are 500)...

You don't give any pertinent information.. Do you have 5000 users, and it's running slow when you send them each one message? do you have a single server install? this could be a less-than-ideal installation! Are you sending out 5000 copies of one message? Sounds a LOT like spam!

Please explain your configuration and your situation a little bit more.

I'm trying to understand; You're testing. Is there a reason you're testing with version 5.0 when the current is 6.09? are you running 32bit or 64? and are you running it on a real server? a laptop? a guest operating system? you really don't provide any information that could allow someone to give helpful suggestions.
But, if you're getting 100 per minute, and want 200, it might help to have more ram? increasing cpu or disk speed? what's the speed of your [presumably test] Internet? What are you sending the message(s) to? is the limiting factor the "other end"?
