Install Zimbra using existing MTA

Is it possible to install and configure Zimbra in a way that preserves the existing mail delivery system?

We are interested in using Zimbra, but already have a mail system that works perfectly and we would really hate to part with it

No, it isn't unless you want to set-up a Split Domain but that wouldn't be the best approach. Zimbra Collaboration Suite is a complete package and must be installed as such.

I'll also move this to the correct forum as it's not a problem associated with installing Zimbra.

Well you could use your existing MTA as the incoming or outgoing point for your email, but it would not be managed by Zimbra and you might still need to install Zimbra's MTA component to be the communications point with your external MTA.

It's a bit like having an external AV/AS filter your mail before it gets into Zimbra.
