About reindex

Hi,
I have a question about reindexing. If a have a difference between the information about the mail items in the database and the mail items in the filesystem, is this fixed by reindexing?

My problem now is that I have a /opt/zimbra snapshot with the database broken. I have MySQL dump but it's a newer than the snapshot. If i rindex every mailbox, will the database be synced with the mail items in the filesystem? The information about nonexisent items will be dropped from the DB?
