Default [SOLVED] Question about retaining email

Sorry if this has been covered, but my search-fu is failing me this morning.

Our company president was in last night, asking about searching emails for a user no longer with the company. After a brief discussion, what he'd like to see is a two-year retention period for ALL email from former employees, but in such a way that they don't count against our number of licenses.

So here's the question: Instead of changing an account status to 'closed' or 'locked', is there a way to "detach" a mailbox from the database, as if it were deleted, but have the contents sitting off in a folder somewhere.

Example: Joe Smith, Executive Vice President, is leaving the company. I would like to be able to take joe.smith, remove that mailbox from Zimbra, but have some process take all of his email, compress it, and I can backup joe.smith.gz to whatever media I want.

We're still running 5.0.23, so if this requires an upgrade to 6.x, that would be fine too.

Thanks in advance!
John

Why not just use the Export function (or REST) on the users Preferences page?

We also use the REST method (ZCS 6.0:Zimbra REST API Reference:Export Mailbox - Zimbra :: Wiki) to export Mailbox Data and store the .tgz archives. If needed, the particular Account can be temporarily re-activated.
