Default local.cf vs salocal.cf.in

Ive been reading through some spamassign documents and some threads, and some suggestion is to create a personalized .cf or use local.cf. My questions:

1) If i migrate all or my settings out of salocal, into <mycompany>.cf/local.cf are the settings instantly active once I restart spamassissin?
2) Do I remove everything out of salocal?
3) In /opt/zimbra/conf/spamassissin/* their are a bunch of exampled cf's with sample rules. Can I just copy the rules I want out of the sample files and paste them into my .cf file?

Yes, once you restart then SA will read the config file.

No, I would leave the defaults in there and override with your own .cf file

They are not sample rules; they are the actual ones being used. No requirement to paste into your own .cf file.
