Default Zimbra 6.0.8 GA Release and Supported OS??

Hi all

Our company is moving over to Zimbra from Domino and we have purchased a completely new server just for Zimbra to run on. The server is the Intel SR1630GP. Now the issues I am having is finding a suitable OS that supports my hardware and that Zimbra works well with. My company has already spent 200k on IT infrastructure in the last 4 months and are reluctant or not willing at all to buy software like RedHat or Suse.

So question, what OS can I use to have completely stable environment for Zimbra and that supports my hardware. I have tried Ubuntu 8.04 (not support for chipset) tried Ubuntu 10.04 (issues with GRUB installing on software RAID 1) am currently downloading Ubuntu 10.10 and OpenSuse 11.3. Can anyone tell me if these two OS's function properly with Zimbra?

Anyone please...

Is that server on the HCL for ESXi?

If so, you could install ESXi(free) on the physical server and then install Zimbra on an Ubuntu 8.04 LTS(free) OS and have a supported configuration.

FWIW and not trying to rub salt in a wound, but we always advise our clients to defer specifying/purchasing any hardware until the systems architecture has been finalized, otherwise you can easily find yourself in these kinds of "tail wags the dog" situations.

Hope that helps,
Mark

Yeah it seems like the system is on the HCL, well the mainboard is.
I'll give it a try.

Thanks

Whitebox then?

Worst likely case is ESXi will barf on the SATA DVD drive, so just be prepared to do an ESXi install from a USB stick. And if the BIOS supports booting from, and the mobo has, an internal USB stick port, then you'll have more flexibility in configuring your disks and datastores if you install ESXi on an internal, on-motherboard USB stick. Something like a 4GB stick from Crucial will do fine (get a spare though, just in case!)

Hope that helps,
Mark
