Ldap Filtering with OU--Helpp

hello,....is it possible to search based on OU ?

for example, i have ldap server with :

ou=IT
|---CN=cindy
|---CN=sarah
|---CN=nadya

ou=FA
|---CN=melissa
|---CN=Rudy
|---CN=Mike

ou=HR
|---CN=Robert
|---CN=Ollie

in client side:
if i want to send email, i want to search based on "department" not search based on names. is it possible ? if this possible what LDAP strings filter that i must used ? i almost frustrating with these ldap strings filter

You might want to look into writing a script to populate zimbra Distribution Lists built from your external ldap.
