Default Zimbra & Empathy (xmpp)

Has anyone gotten Zimbra's chat function working with the Empathy (in my case, in Ubuntu 10.04).

I can get Empathy working with other XMPP servers (say, Gmail) but following this document doesn't seem to work: I get "Connecting..." followed by "Disconnected".

It's definitely connecting because I get a cert mismatch error (tries to vaildate domain.com and my cert is for mail.domain.com), but failing after that. Pidgin, on the other hand, works fine.

Config as follows:
Login: username@domain.com
Password: password
Advanced
Encryption required: Off
Ignore SSL cert errors: On
Resource: blank
Priority: 0
Override server settings:
Server: tried with this blank and with FQDN
Port: 5222

I get the same with Empathy on Ubuntu 10.10 too but not Pidgin or any other XMPP client even online ones. However Empathy works with other XMPP services such as jabber.org and even googletalk ;-)

3 different Zimbra servers all sport the same issue with current Empathty release in 10.10 but not Ubuntu 10.04's version. All use SSL with third party certs and using FQDN for the server and 5222 for the port. All I get is a disconnected message.

I guess I need to identify whether this is an Empathy issue or Jive issue, it certainly feels like a change in Empathy...

Anyone else having odd problems?

I've seen this same problem with Lonely Cat's Slick client for Symbian phones. I'm not sure how to diagnose it, save for sifting through tcpdump data.

I have empathy working fine, ZCS NE 6.0.7 GA

ubuntu 10.04, empathy client 2.30.3

Here are my settings:
[x] Encryption Required
[x] ignore ssl cert errors
server: (actual mailbox server, not imap proxy)
Port: 5223
[x] Use old SSL

no other funky modifications...

I had it working in Lucid too, but not with Maverick. So I switched to Pidgin again, whilst Empathy catches its development breath for a bit!

Doesn't appear to be a Zimbra issue.... unless it's an odd standards compliance thing somewhere.

How do I see the difference between the actual mailbox server and the imap proxy?

Thanks!

I am trying to debug this since it is a major problem for me.

The problem has been reported here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=719063
and here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...hy/+bug/874283

When connect to the 5223 port, the TLS/SSL handshake gets a response from
the server that is -12 (FATAL_ALERT)

It could be a bug in gnutls that causes the server to reject the handshake.

Has anyone seen anything interesting in the server logs for zimbra xmpp that
could give a hint to why the handshake is rejected when connecting using
telepathy/gabble/empathy?
