Exclamation Backup / Restore with REST

Hi, I was able to make backups of my users data using zmmailbox and exporting them to a .tgz file. Then I restored the data successfully, the users can see the message in their Inbox, but they CAN'T read it, it show up a error message about a lost connection of a service, I checked and all my services are running... the curious thing is that the only affected messages are the imported ones, new messages can be read without problems... Any help?

I am not familiar with backing up in that manner - but as a first pointer - I would suggest you have only restored the user's database - and not their actual mail message store of email message files. The two are stored separately on zimbra.

That would explain why they could see all the mail headers for old emails - but not actually open them. New messages would have both the headers in the database AND the email file in the mail message store.

By the way - before one of the mods asks - you should run

zmcontrol -v

as the zimbra user on your server, and copy the output into your forum profile.

I know, first I get the list of users then backup each user using the REST method, what I backup is their store files. So how is the proper way to backup and restore users data? I think you need to export the SQL too? help please.

It may help if you post the exact commands that you're using for the backup as well as the restore.

Using the zimbra user I typed the following commands.

Backup:

zmmailbox -z -m "${user}@${domain}" getRestURL "//?fmt=tgz" > /backup/${user}.tgz

Restore:

zmmailbox -z -m "${user}@${domain}" postRestURL "//?fmt=tgz&resolve=reset" /backup/${user}.tgz

Fixed! (kinda)... I just needed to run the restore command twice, and now my users can acces their email messages, I don't know if that is the proper way of doing it, but it works! Thanks.
