    Default MySQL root password?

    Hello,

I would like to utilize the mysql db server that zimbra installs to host other databases.. Where can I find the root password that zimbra sets on installation?

This works only with the mysql bundled with Zimbra, but not with the MySQL existing on the system.

    Code:
    /opt/zimbra/bin/mysql -u root -p --host localhost --port 7306
So, if, as a user other than "zimbra", I try to access mysql on port 7306 using mysql client ("mysql") existing on my system, it wont let me connect.

    Code:
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
Is this normal behaviour? I am using:
    ZCS 4.0.0 GA.
    mysql Ver 14.7 Distrib 4.1.20, for redhat-linux-gnu (i686) using readline 4.3
    Linux 2.6.9-34.0.1.EL #1 Wed May 24 07:40:56 CDT 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
    CentOS 4.3
Actually, I want to be able to use "mysqldump" which is also failing with a similar error:

    Code:
mysqldump: Got error: 1045: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) when trying to connect
Any ideas why this is failing?

Ok, I just realised that this is because the mysqldump or mysql client is trying to connect to port 3306 despite being explicitly asked to connect to port 7306 by using switches:

    Code:
    -P 7306
    _OR_

    Code:
    --port=7306
Googling now to find out why this is happening...

    If anyone knows please post,

    Thanks,
    Regards,

    Code:
    man mysql
    provided the hint.

To use "mysql" client other than the one provided by Zimbra, socket should also be mentioned. The command that works is:

    Code:
    mysql --port=7306 --socket=/opt/zimbra/db/mysql.sock -u root -p
