Default Message Size Limit Strangeness

Hey All,

I'm running 6.0.5_GA_2213.DEBIAN4.0.FOSS and I have a question about maximum message size.

So, I currently have it set to 25MB (25600 bytes). A few instances have come up where users have attached files that are close to the limit (like 19-20 MB) but are unable to send the e-mail with an error about the e-mail being too big. As a good example, I have a PDF file that, according to Zimbra, is 18.4 MB. When I go to send the e-mail, it gives me the error "Message of size 26588341 exceeded allowed size."

There's no way that the text in my e-mail is 7+MB! What gives?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

That would depend on the encoding used when the file is uploaded: Outbound message size changes due to format conversions - there's been several threads in the forums over the years that cover this.
