Default inbox full-But there is no mails

I have a strange problem.One of my user complained that his inbox is full .But he cant see ay mails in his inbox and no other folders were not seen.I also cross checked this by accessing his mail and found it true.
How is this happens.The storage space indicator shows as full.But we cant seen any thing in his inbox.
Please help....

Have you checked the files in the user's Briefcase?. Those take up quota space too.

There is nothig seen in the briefcase.But in the inbox, it shows there are 343 emails but i can see only 10 of them in the inbox

Is this a "new" account? or are these IMAP folders from older/legacy systems?. It used to be the case that these systems didn't actually delete the messages, just marked them as such (for well-justified reasons).

I've done a few imports where the message count is wrong because of this.

It is a new account.also there is no item i trash also

It is configured in Outlook Express using IMAP. Now when we view it in outlook express the deleted messages are seen with a strike through. But not seen in webmail to delete the mail. How can I delete it permanently?

You can either run a 'purge' on those folders in the client or just leave them to eventually get deleted via the server, why is this a problem?
