Question Mail forwarding if account doesn't exist

Ok I have problem. I tried to find solution from this forum and from internet, but didn't find any.

I have two domains, let's call them example.com and mydomain.com. I need to get mail forwarded from domain to other, if account not find from first one.

In example, how it should work.
  • someone's sending mail for test@example.com
  • there's not that kind of account at example.com -domain. So mail is forwarded to mydomain.com
  • if account test@mydomain.com is found, then OK. If not then sends error message to sender.

Is this possible in Zimbra? And how I make it work?

Are both these domains on the same zimbra server? You could set up an alias for each account, so you could have an account called user1@domainA.com and an alias on that account of user1@domainB.com

Yes, both domains are in same server. I'd like to say that alias is solution, but it's not, because you have to create it for every new account also. And when we're talking about ISP level service then it's not a good solution.

I was testing some catchall, but it didn't work, also could make it wrong?

Oh, it's a large installation? Ok.

You could script the alias generation then.
Catchall is not likely to meet your needs as it will deliver all mail that does not match a mailbox into a single mailbox, not into individual boxes at an alternative domain.

It should also be possible to put a gateway device in front of the zimbra server and set the MX records of both domains to that, then have that rewrite the headers to a canonical domain and forward that to the zimbra server, but that's outside of my expertise levels.
