Question Users experiencing poor performance and timeouts

Hello there. I'm new to Zimbra (and Linux, coincidentally), and have run into some difficulty figuring out some issues users are experiencing with Outlook hanging and returning timeout errors. We're currently running "Release 4.5.11_GA_1751.FC5_20080128130403 FC5 FOSS edition" on a Fedora Core 5 system.

I've restarted Zimbra and things didn't change. The server is a Pentium D (not sure on clock speed, but two cores) with 8 GB of memory. Here's the output for top:

Code:
top - 08:45:36 up 121 days, 23:47, 1 user, load average: 3.77, 5.40, 5.35
Tasks: 163 total, 1 running, 162 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie

Welcome to the forums

On that version of Zimbra you should really be planning an upgrade and have a read through ClamAV 0.94 EOL on ZCS 5.0.16 prior (discussion) as you are probably hitting it.

My server gets rebooted every night for the same reason and its a bigger spec. After 5 or 6 days it becomes really slow and the timeouts start and even IMAP/POP starts having issues. I put a reboot script in the cron. On my 'old test' server we had some hard drive issues which also caused amavis to go ballistic as its quite hdd intensive as well. Took us a while to figure that one out. Amavis did the same to Maia on a clients server which we discovered quickly as we had only just discovered our own servers issue. (Said client also a Zimbra user now seeing we had to redo the whole server anyway )

Updated clamav and CPU and IO wait seem to be down. I'll wait to see how many users complain tomorrow before I call it.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Still having problems, but today while working on someone's system I noticed they (incorrectly) had "require Secure Password Authentication" on in Outlook. Apparently a number of users are configured this way. Could this be causing problems?
