Question Backup set may be incomplete

Hi, I'm doing a disaster recovery test with a newly installed v3.1.4 server under Red Hat EL 4. To simulate the disaster, I erased /opt/zimbra/ and reinstalled Zimbra v3.1.4. I then restored /opt/zimbra/backup/ from a backup. The LDAP directory restored okay. But I cannot restore the accounts.

zmrestore -sys -rf -a all -c
Error occurred: system failure: Backup set may be incomplete

If I try zmrestoreoffline, nothing happens. No errors and it immediately returns to the command prompt.

    The /opt/zimbra/backup/ directory looks normal:
    -rwxrwxrwx 1 zimbra zimbra 4.1K Aug 28 14:56 acct_name_id.dat
    -rwxrwxrwx 1 zimbra zimbra 3.8K Aug 28 14:56 acct_session.dat
    drwxrwxrwx 5 zimbra zimbra 4.0K Aug 28 14:56 ldap/
    drwxrwxrwx 3 zimbra zimbra 4.0K Aug 28 14:56 redologs/
    drwxrwxrwx 5 zimbra zimbra 4.0K Aug 28 15:00 sessions/
    drwxrwxrwx 2 zimbra zimbra 4.0K Aug 28 15:01 sessions_tmp/
    drwxrwxrwx 3 zimbra zimbra 4.0K Aug 28 15:16 shared_blobs/

And the /opt/zimbra/backup/sessions/ directory looks normal too:
    drwxrwxrwx 4 zimbra zimbra 4.0K Aug 28 14:56 full200608251800050/
    drwxrwxrwx 4 zimbra zimbra 4.0K Aug 28 14:58 full200608261800051/
    drwxrwxrwx 4 zimbra zimbra 4.0K Aug 28 15:00 full200608271800042/

And the contents of the session directories looks normal too. In case the problem had to do with permissions, I did "chmod -R 777 /opt/zimbra/backup"

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi, can you check the permission of session.dat files under the subdirectories of sessions/full200608271800042? There is a session.dat file for each account, and it is supposed to be read-only if the backup was completed successfully.

See /opt/zimbra/log/zimbra.log for any errors both at the time of backup and during restore, including offline restore. I have seen this "Backup set may be incomplete" error when the backup target ran out of disk during backup and wasn't able to complete the writes to session.dat file.

Thanks jhahm, setting session.dat to read-only eliminated that error.

Now zmrestore won't restore accounts that have any messages:

zmrestore -sys -rf -a all -c
System tables and local configuration are restored.
Local config is restored to <zimbra_home>/conf/localconfig.xml.restored.
Make sure current volumes are correct using zmvolume command.

Error occurred during restore. Check logs for more details.
The following accounts have not been restored:
    075q0.ag@mail.domain.edu
    randy@domain.com <--has messages and folders
    stevee@domain.com <--has messages and folders
    tn1rdsmo@mail.domain.edu
    torsten@domain.com <--has messages and folders

Is there a certain order that I need to do when restoring, like first zmrestoreldap and then zmrestore or the other way around? Better still, is there complete disaster recovery documentation somewhere? I must get this disaster recovery down pat before we go live. Thanks!
