Default [SOLVED] Thunderbird Imap "maximum message size exceeded"

Hi,

I'm finally stumped at to why I continue to get this error.

I am running ZCS 6.0.6 with Thunderbird 3.1.0 on Windows XP connected via IMAPSSL. I am trying to copy a 17MB email from my local machine to a directory on Zimbra. I've followed everything I could find about the "maximum message size exceeded" error and the "maximum request size exceeded" error but to no avail. Here is what I have tried so far:

Code:
zmlocalconfig -e imap_max_request_size=1073741824
zmlocalconfig | grep -i imap_max_request_size
imap_max_request_size = 1073741824

zmprov modifyConfig zimbraMailContentMaxSize 67108864
zmprov getConfig zimbraMailContentMaxSize
zimbraMailContentMaxSize 67108864

zmprov modifyConfig zimbraFileUploadMaxSize 67108864
zmprov getConfig zimbraFileUploadMaxSize
zimbraFileUploadMaxSize: 67108864

zmmailboxdctl restart
I successfully copied a 7.3MB file to the same destination on Zimbra. Any ideas?

thanks

Those options can also be set on a per-server basis. Did you check that?

I have only one installation of Zimbra on a single piece of hardware. I've even restarted Zimbra (zmcontrol stop then start) and the values are what I set them to.

Did you check any server log files when you got this error message in Thunderbird? I think /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log would probably be the one you want to look at first. There might be additional info in the log files that will help you figure out why the message is being stopped.

I checked /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log and nothing show up that I am coping the email from my local machine to Zimbra. I tried creating a draft email with an attachment of 8.5MB and saved it to Zimbra. If I open the email and add another attachment that pushes it just over the 10MB limit, I get an error about trying to save to the Drafts folder. If I move the 8.5MB draft email, I can see the move in the mailbox.log file.

Well...

On a whim I changed the MTA settings:

Global Settings > MTA tab > Maximum Message Size = 50000 (kb)

zmprov getAllConfig | grep -i max
returns: zimbraMtaMaxMessageSize: 51200000

Now my 17MB email copies to Zimbra. So why is IMAP reading the MTA setting?

Just a guess here, but I wonder how T-Bird (and other IMAP clients for that matter) handle a copy from a local (to you) source to the server. Isn't this really like "forwarding" a message, which would then be handled by SMTP?

I just checked with Wireshark and everything for copying a message is done on port 993 and is encrypted with TLS.

I wonder if 6.0.7.1 would fix this with zimbraImapMaxRequestSize added to the LDAP?

Thunderbird issues an imap copy call, but I'm wondering if it hits the LMTP server for some reason when adding the message to the mailbox. That would explain the error about too large of a message being delivered. Just a wild guess though..
