Default Thunderbird and single calendar/contacts

I am using Thunderbird 3.0.5 on Ubuntu 10.4 64bit and am trying to figure out how to keep my main calendar/contacts list in sync with zimbra. Everything I see is about adding a secondary calendar or contacts lists to Thunderbird, which i have no interest in doing. I only want to have to manage one calendar and one contacts list within thunderbird. Am I missing something? Any recommendations?

There must be others that have this issue. Heck, it might even be an issue with other clients as well. I dont know. Its frustrating though. The last thing i need is more lists to manage. =P

For calendar you might want to look at Sunbird or the Lighting plug-in (keeping to all things Mozilla). And I've heard that Zindus can work quite well for contacts, though I've never used it.

I edited my original post with clarity. Its not that i dont want to use Thunderbird, I do, i just dont want to manage two contact lists and calendars. I dont see how I could make it so that the zimbra calendar/contacts is primary and there really isnt even a secondary option that could create confusion.

Thanks for the tip about Zindus!

My point exactly.

Remember that Thunderbird is a mail client. It doesn't have any calendar functionality in it (iirc). To cover that area you could either:

(a) Use Mozilla Sunbird, and set it to sync to your ZCS
(b) Install the Lightning plug-in in your Thunderbird.
