Integrate Zimbra Webmail Client with existing Social Network

Hi all,

my plan is to offer to the users of our social network an email address with their vanity names - just like yournickname@myspace.com.

So basically this is about replacing the social network private messaging system by a full featured webmail client. Contacts would be the "friends", calendar and other groupware features would not be used.

Zimbra offers the worlds coolest webmail client. Maybe this is a completely dumb idea, but do you consider Zimbra Community Edition a good starting point? Or can you point me to a client project with a better fit (e.g. less features)?
